Santa Teresa Foothills (4/7/2026)

Today I said Goodbye to my parents’ house. And I finally visited the trail above the neighborhood in what I now know is called the Santa Teresa Foothills.

It’s been an exhaustingattimes and emotional past two months. But it’s also been filled with good memories. And ever since I became a naturalist I have wanted to check out these foothills.

Ohsomany surprising things there, despite the waytoomany non-native plants everywhere. All I have time for is these photos of what we saw. And this short list: California Ground Squirrels, White-breasted Nuthatch, Red-tailed Hawks, Western Bluebirds. Oh, and I cannot believe how many California Buckeye trees are near the top.

Had no idea what was sitting right there next to my family home.
