R: Western Terrestrial Garter Snake.
Today we went Naturing in one of my favorite spots in Pt. Reyes. Abbotts Lagoon. And because I was with so many others, I saw so much more. Especially, the Pollinators!
Wish I had time to really get into it, but I just have my phone with me on this long weekend, so I’ll just say this.
GARTER SNAKE!
RESTING GARTER SNAKE, all curled up and exposed but camouflaged ohsoamazingly on reeds and things crazy close to the boardwalk!!!
JD spotted it, and I was flippin’ DELIGHTED to get to see one so close and so still and so easytosee. Just FANTASTIC!!!
Also saw so many Bees (which are so on my mind with recent and upcoming Native Bee-focused events and programs) and Wasps and Beetles. And fuzzy Moth caterpillars, unlike any I’ve seen before.
Plus North American River Otter! Just the one, but we got to watch it come close and even hop up onto the sandy bits eversobriefly.
And a juvenile Red-winged Blackbird, which I’ve never seen before. Just peeking out from a mound of reeds that must be its nest home. Super curious about everything out there. Didn’t even seem to mind us gawking at it.
Will have to let my photos tell the rest. But always such a pleasure to visit Abbotts Lagoon. And with naturalist friends. Never disappoints!!
