R: Great Horned Owl!
Today I did not go Naturing. I was coming from one errand and was on my way to another in my neighborhood, when I saw a large bird swoop across the street just ahead of my car and fly on top of a pole.
I can’t even explain the random and fortuitous timing of this.
I KNEW that shape. That was no Hawk.
I quickly stopped my car and pulled over. Standing in the light rain and looking up at those definitive horns, I was absolutely staring at a Great Horned Owl!!!
Okokok, so it’s always exciting to see an Owl. It was especially exciting as it’s been a while for me. And it was ENTIRELY EXCITING to actually see one in MY neighborhood!!
I felt like lucky Linzy or Yakuta, who get to hear and see them from their flippin’ apartments in the middle of the Inner Richmond. Ridiculous.
Maybe this one was coming from Grandview Park? I gotta hang out up there around sunset sometime!
Not great photos, as I was using my iPhone. But clearly GHO. Oh, yes.
I couldn’t stop smiling driving away. That’s the effect they have on me. And what NUTSO TIMING was that??
So I didn’t hear or see them yesterday. But this sudden encounter made me feel like my powers came back. Still got it, folks!
