R: What.
Today I had just enough time for some Owling before heading home from work. And I’d JUST SEEN an observation of THREE GREAT HORNED OWLETS right in The Presidio. While I still haven’t been to meet the THREE GREAT HORNED OWLETS that Ren let me know about over in GGPark East (!!!), I’d like my first time with them not to be so short. So I made the call. Quick visit to THESE three owlets!
For those of you who have waited so long for THE OWLET TIMES to take over my nature journal posts, you are WELCOME.
The spot for the observation on iNat wasn’t accurate, so I had to use my Owl Witch Ways to locate them. And, I did. Only saw two owlets, but they are fortunately quite easy to see from the path. And not at all obstructed, really.
The one that was awake and facing me was VERY CURIOUS and watched me INTENTLY. Like they do! Maybe it’s the eldest? The other stayed huddled most of the time. The third was perhaps underneath??
Talked with a woman walking past about them. She said they had grown so fast! And that there were MORE OWLETS on/near Barnard Ave! She wasn’t able to give me a great indication of exactly where, but she confirmed she’d seen them. I actually went to go look the other night and only saw the female and male GHO. The male once again hanging out on the nest from last year. BIZARRE.
That’s pretty much all I have to report!
Owlet Season is upon us. With seemingly quite a few mouths to feed this year!
