R: Pileated Woodpecker.
Today I was able to soak in a bit of Nature in Brian’s mom’s backyard in Michigan.
Please forgive this and any other Michigan posts as they’ll be from my phone, which I haven’t done since the veryearlydays and haven’t done with formal capitalization via my phone like ever?
So many tracks in the snow!! Can’t wait to look them all up, but that might have to wait til I get home.
A number of Black-capped Chickadees were in a large tree in her yard and at her bird feeders. I love their peach bellies.
And right when I saw a small woodpecker (like Nuttall’s Woodpecker size?) land on a tree branch outside her kitchen window, we all looked from the kitchen to see it. And Brian’s mom started telling us about the many woodpeckers she sees, and in particular, the Pileated Woodpecker.
Not ONE SECOND LATER did a flippin’ Pileated Woodpecker fly in across her backyard and into the tree just outside her kitchen window!!! We all shrieked, and it soon flew back and into the safety of the trees just past her fence. So, my photos are crap, but I had to keep one just for the delightful memory.
Hoping to fit in bits of Naturing whenever possible over here while here for the holidays!
