today we explored the northwest corner of the park: Dutch Windmill, Archery Range, North Lake. and there was so much wildlife drama! highlights include a Pied-billed Grebe’s nest in North Lake, watching a Red-shouldered Hawk eat a Pocket Gopher in a tree about 30 feet from us, and a crazy assembly of creatures all just in front and above us as two raccoons were thieving (from a raven’s nest, we think?) while ravens, squirrels, Steller’s Jays, sparrows, California Towhees, and a frickin’ mouse or rat were all witnesses with us.
