R: Late Oyster?
Today we visited what the locals call “Keji.” We made it a short visit as we wanted a little time in Annapolis Royal before heading East to Truro, but I’m so glad to have seen a tiny bit of this tucked away spot.
Hope to see a lot more next time.
Loved just being still in all the Fall Colour Splendor after driving past it so far this trip. And we got incredibly lucky that the forecasted rain was pushed out a day or two!
Just as we were leaving the Visitor Center, I noticed a large insect just hangin’ on the windows. Newtome Western Conifer Seed Bug! My phone camera had a tough time finding it on the glass, but persistence won the day.
We did some of the Beech Grove route on AllTrails. And we saw familiar faces like Canada Geese and Red-breasted Nuthatches and Hairy Woodpeckers and heard a Belted Kingfisher (I swear).
Also saw a couple American Red Squirrels (newtome since seeing them in the Halifax Public Gardens on Sunday) chasing each other like mad and even appearing to beg for food super close to us, WHUT.
A bunch of water beetle things that turned out to be Whirligig Beetles (best Beetle name ever, right?) zooming around like crazy on the surface of the water. Wish I’d gotten better photos of them!
My digital camera pics were overall meh.
Hardly anything was blooming, as expected, but it was neat to see newtome plants. Even spotted some Fungi, like these absolutely charming orange blobs on a log. Late Oyster?
We sadly weren’t there for long, but I got a taste of the area. And can’t wait for more next time.
