today i ventured out to the Western side of the park, as it’s been a while. and, i had a feeling it might be a good time to check on the Great Horned Owls of the West, since the GHOs of the Lily Pond already have a teenage owlet. AND, I FOUND THEM!!! AN ADULT AND TWO OWLET FURBALLS!!!!! they’re not in the same tree as last year, but they were in a nearby pine. kind of can’t believe i found them as they were up high and obscured a bit. but the furry tops of the babies helps A LOT. so delighted to see TWO compared to just one last year by this pair. after i found the owls i was looking for, i got to watch Tree Swallows at the Bison Paddock. i’ve never seen them still and so close before! walked around Middle Lake, found a ball of baby spiders in the midst of hatching, and watched a Cooper’s Hawk (thanks for the ID, Juli!) swoop down and grab a rodent and swoop back up into a tree and eat it and cry out after for a while. big cry baby!
