today we spent time in our backyard! it felt like it’d been forever. and it was great to immerse ourselves in Nature after an f’ing crazy news day. the park, fresh from midday rain, smelled amazing. we spent all of our time around and at the Lily Pond. Hooded Mergansers and Ring-necked Ducks still hanging out on the pond. but we spent most of our time watching the little birds fluttering around: Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Hutton’s Vireo, Townsend’s Warblers, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and a Nuttall’s Woodpecker. and no hooting was heard. it was odd. my best guess is that we were there too early. or maybe they moved once it started raining? anyhoo(t), i’m hoping the Great Horned Owls of the Lily Pond are doing ok wherever they are.
