today i planned to just walk around Stow Lake. on the way there, i got to watch an Anna’s Hummingbird just a couple feet from me, juicing off a large flowering Mexican Sage bush for a while. lately i’ve been noticing blooming flowers i recognize from early spring when i first started Naturing, which is pretty neato. how these things bloom all through winter and even into spring is amazing! stopped at the top of the staircase to hear a Northern Flicker and watch a handful of Yellow-rumped Warblers. headed toward the boathouse and heard HOOTING. i honestly thought i would pass where they usually are before hearing them. but, nope! took a while to find them, but i was able to spot the Great Horned Owls of Strawberry Hill. they were on the hill itself this time. got to point them out to a couple folks, one of whom was the older lady from earlier this week! she said she needed to remember to bring her binoculars. yep! if you want to truly see the owls, those are REQUIRED! spent so much time looking for the owls that i didn’t have time to do the entire circle around Stow Lake in order to make it back by Happy Hour time. dang owls.
